Kwaman headteacher appeals for teachers

The headteacher of the Agona Kwaman Presbyterian Junior High School in the Central Region, Steven Kojo Ayeh, has appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to replace teachers who have been transferred from the school.

According to him, the lack of teachers was affecting teaching and learning in the school.

Conflict

The transfer was as a result of a conflict between a Primary 4 teacher of the school and parents of a student.

The teacher, Isaac Mensah, is alleged to have beaten a third year student, Denis Akins, until he fainted in the school.

The victim was later resuscitated by his mates who sent him home.

When the matter was reported to the victim’s parents, his elder brother allegedly rushed to the school and attacked the headteacher and some of the teachers including Mr Mensah.

Unfortunate

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Ayeh described the incident as unfortunate and explained that the teacher’s action was not to harm the student.

He, however, said the reprisal attack by the brother of the victim had put fear in the teachers, some of whom demanded transfer from the school for their safety.

“I have since transferred five teachers following the incident,” the head teacher indicated.

Appeal

He has, therefore, appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to intervene to ensure that calm and discipline are restored to the school to attract teachers to the institution.
