Kaneshie Polyclinic gets ambulance, generator
The Kaneshie Polyclinic has taken delivery of an ambulance and a 100- kilowatt generator to boost healthcare services at the facility.
The ambulance, valued at GH¢ 55,000, was presented to the polyclinic by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Okai Koi South, Mr Ahmed Arthur, while the generator was donated by Smice International Company.
The MP also handed over an information centre to the polyclinic.
Dr Patrick Amo-Mensah, the Medical Director of the polyclinic, commended the MP and Smice for the support.
He said both the ambulance and the generator would go a long way to help improve services at the polyclinic.
Referral system
He noted that the ambulance would improve “our referral system to reduce death among the people while the generator will address the power outages (dumsor) being experienced in the country”.
Dr Amo-Mensah noted that referred patients were transported to other facilities such as the Ridge Hospital and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in taxis, adding that the practice was not the best.
“We used to call the National Ambulance Service when we want to refer patients. In such cases, there were delays because the ambulance would have to pass through traffic before getting to the polyclinic. Now, with an ambulance stationed 24 hours at the polyclinic, patients would be transported quickly to the referral facilities,” he added.
Stalled expansion project
Dr Amo-Mensah called on the government to complete the stalled expansion project at the polyclinic to meet the increasing demands by patients. About 400 patients, he said, visited the facility daily.
Mr Arthur said he presented the ambulance because he thought the people in the area needed the best of health care.
According to him, the polyclinic, which is sited in his constituency, took care of a large number of people in areas such as the Kaneshie Market, Bubiashie, North Kaneshie, Avenor, Alajo, Awudome and Tesano.
