Juaben Community Bank donates to four schools

THE Juaben Community Bank has donated supplementary readers and exercise books to four schools in the bank’s operational area to improve the habit of reading among the children.

The beneficiary schools are Abetenim and Nkyerepoaso M/A and Ofoase Methodist primary schools in the Ejisu Juaben Municipality and the Aboaso R/C Primary A and B schools in the Kwabre East District, all in the Ashanti Region.

The books which cost Gh¢10,000 were made up of 700 supplementary readers and 200 exercise books.

Anniversary

The donation was made as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Juaben Community Bank.

Other activities lined up for the celebration to be climaxed on November 7 are inter-school quiz competition, football gala, health screening and donation to various institutions and communities in the bank’s operational area.

Speaking at separate functions during which he led the board members of the bank to make the donation to the various schools, the Vice Board Chairman of the bank, Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso I, debunked the erroneous impression that the development of education was the sole responsibility of the government, adding that although it was the responsibility of the government to spearhead the development of the nation, getting support from the corporate sector and other well-meaning Ghanaians would complement government’s effort.

He appealed to parents to desist from shirking their responsibilities and rather invest in the education of their children since that was the only legacy they could bequeath to them.

Appeal

The Headmaster of Ofoase Methodist Primary School, Mr Bismark Nsoh, thanked the bank for its support but appealed for computers to support the teaching and learning of Information and Communications Technology in the school.

The General Manager of the Bank, Mr Noble Kwabena Agyei-Poku, urged the shareholders of the bank to buy more shares to increase their fortunes in the bank’s operations in the form of dividend and scholarships for their children’s education.

In a related development, the Juaben branch of the Pentecost Men’s Fellowship has also donated items at a cost of Gh¢200.00 to the Juaben Police and the Juaben Magistrate Court.

The items were toilet rolls, mosquito sprays, detergents, pens and A4 sheets.

Making the presentation, the Juaben District Pastor of the Church of Pentecost, Mr Christian Asiedu Budu, said the presentation followed requests made by the two institutions to enhance their operations.

He said the donation was part of activities commemorating the 40th anniversary of the formation of the men’s ministry in the church.

The church also embarked on a clean-up exercise at the police station, the court and some major streets of Juaben.

Lance Corporal Dufie Frimpong, who received the items, commended the church for the support and called on others to emulate the gesture and also appealed for blankets and mattresses for the suspects in their cells.
