‘Help improve lives of underprivileged’
Miss World Africa 2013, Ms Caranzar Naa Okailey Shooter, has called on Ghanaians to engage in community service to better the lives of people in deprived areas.
She noted that the attitude of the Ghanaian public towards voluntary service was not encouraging, particularly so as some of the rural areas were deprived of some basic needs.
Ms Shooter made the call when she received cash sponsorship from Midland Savings and loans, a private company, for the Okailey Shooter Foundation in Accra last Wednesday.
Outreach programme
The money is to assist the foundation to carry out a medical outreach programme in the Karlbeam community in Bolgatanga from December 19-21, 2014, during which members of the community would be provided with free medical care.
A team of medical professionals from the KorleBu Teaching Hospital in Accra would be assisting Ms Shooter to carry out the exercise.
Ms Shooter said the programme was part of a series of activities planned towards the launch of the Okailey Shooter Foundation, which aims at providing some needed services for the underprivileged.
Donation
Presenting a cheque for GH¢ 5,000 to Ms Shooter, the Brands Manager of Midland Savings and Loans, Mrs Marita Adjovu, said the company was also committed to the welfare of the less privileged and that was the reason why it was supporting the foundation to provide medical care for the needy.
Mrs Adjovu commended the beauty queen for taking such a bold step to impact the lives of people in deprived communities.
Ms Shooter thanked Midland Savings and Loans for the support and promised that the money would be put to good use.
She called on other organisations and institutions to donate towards the programme to enable the team cater for more people during the exercise.
