Graphic, others to be honoured for contribution to national devt
The Suma Traditional Area in the Brong Ahafo Region is to award the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) for the latter’s contribution to national development.
The award is meant to encourage the media house to continue to use its platform to project the country positively and to highlight the plight of the vulnerable in society.
Some individuals who have also distinguished themselves in the task of nation-building, including former presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor, would equally be honoured on March 19, 2016, during the Suma Akwantukese Festival.
Consequently, an entourage of chiefs and traditional leaders from the area visited the headquarters of the GCGL in Accra to inform the company of their preparations.
The entourage, led by the Suma Manhene, Odeneho Dr Affram Brempong III, used the visit to strengthen the ties between the people of Suma and the GCGL.
The other members were the Suma Fumasahene, Nana Kofi Asiri Ababio; Suma Akyempihene, Nana Okofo-Boanya II; the acting Omanhemaa of Suma, Nana Adwoa Korantemaa; the Omanhene Kyeame, Okyeame Ofosuhene Gyeabour; Nana Amo Kankamfo and Nana Boakye, as well as Nana Agyei-Kodie, communications consultant to the traditional area.
Standard
Odeneho Bempong commended the management of the GCGL for the key role the company had played over the years in the media landscape, making its performance the standard to look up to.
“In Ghana, when you talk about the media, you have to start with Graphic because it has become the standard we all look up to. When Graphic says it, we believe that is the case and none can challenge that,” he said.
He also commended the company for its creativity and innovation in the media industry, and urged it to improve upon its standards in order to remain unbeatable.
Adinkra
Odeneho Brempong said the Adinkra symbols were invented by a native of Suma, and that in order to recognise his contribution, a centre would be built in his honour as the “Adinkra Village.”
Such a centre, he stated, would provide skills development and training for the youth in the area and other parts of the country to give them hands-on experience in the creative arts industry which would provide jobs for them.
Leading role
The Managing Director of the GCGL, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, underscored the company’s quest to continue to be the leader on the media front.
He expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of Suma for the visit and pledged to support them during the festival.
The Director of Newspapers of the GCGL, Mr Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo, also assured the people of the company’s support during the celebration of the festival.
Other members of the company who were present at the meeting were the Deputy Editor of the Daily Graphic, Mr Kingsley Kodwo Inkoom, and Mr Emmanuel Arthur of the Corporate Communications Unit.
