A news police station with restrooms for personnel has been put up near the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) in the Eastern Region.
The facility, which cost GH¢1.5 million, will cater for the university and its surrounding communities such as Apenkwa, Monrovia, Rastadown and Adweso in the New Juaben South Municipality in the region.
Funded by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, the police station will help deal with criminal activities and unscrupulous persons in the area.
Before the construction of the facility, residents, especially students of the university had to rely on policemen from the Koforidua Central Police Station wherever they were attacked by criminals who often snatched mobile phones, robbed them of their money and other personal effects such as laptops.

At a ceremony to officially hand over the station to the Eastern Regional Police Command last Friday, Mr Baafi said he would in the course of his four-year term as MP ensure adequate security to enable the university to progress and admit more students.
"I assure you that within the four years as your representative in Parliament, I will do everything within my means to elevate the university, especially in terms of security to enable it to grow.
"I'm determined to make the university one of the best in the country to admit more students," Mr Baafi stated.
Security situation
He explained that the decision to put up the facility was taken after the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Twumasi-Ankrah discussed the security situation facing the students and the university as a whole with him.

For his part, the Vice-Chancellor of the KTU, Professor John Owusu, said the new police station would ensure the security and tranquility in the university.
Professor Owusu told the gathering that most often, students were attacked along the KTU and Capital View Road by criminals, as well as unscrupulous persons and that the provision of the police station would keep the criminals at bay.
Doorsteps
The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Twumasi-Ankrah, who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Richard Appiah, said since policing had been brought to the doorsteps of the people, there was the need for civil society to support as pertained in developed countries.
He said under the visionary leadership of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare to provide security for the people, such efforts by the police should be complemented by the people.
Later, an astroturf named the Joseph Kwasi Okyere Mini Sports Stadium by Excel Fortune Company Limited was inaugurated. It was funded by the Ghana Exim Bank (GEXIM) and constructed for the KTU to help unearth sports talents of the students, as well as the youth within the community.
