Emancipation day activities announced

A durbar of the Chiefs and people of Assin Manso in the Central Region will climax this year’s Emancipation Day celebration.

A statement from the Ghana Tourism Authority said Assin Praso would also mark the occasion with a durbar and the re-enactment of the slaves’ crossing of the River Pra.

It said there would be wreath-laying ceremonies at the Dubois Centre, the George Padmore Library and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

The celebration is being held on the theme: “Emancipation, our Heritage, our strength” with a sub-theme: “Re-uniting the African Family for Development.”

“Between now and August 1, 2015, is the period that Ghana celebrates Emancipation Day, a time which is very crucial in the history of mankind,” the statement said.
