Ekotsia Boomu faces acute water shortage

The chief of Abura Ekotsia Boomu in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District in Central Region, Nana Amoesi XII, has appealed to the government to consider the plight of the 800 inhabitants of the town who have been suffering from acute water shortage over the years.

Nana Amoesi, who was speaking at an Easter fundraising rally at the weekend at Ekotsia Boomu to raise GH¢20,000 for the construction of a community centre, said the people had been depending on a nearby pond as a source of their drinking water for years.

He lamented that for the first time the pond got dried up this year, “and what we get at the moment from water tankers is not pipe-borne water, but water drawn from the River Okyi”.

Nana Amoesi said several attempts had been made over the years to provide the township with clean water from boreholes but that effort had always proved futile because salty water, which cannot be “put to any good use”, always emerged.

The chief said he was hopeful that the government would respond to their call and provide them with pipe-borne water from the Mankesim Water Supply.

Nana Amoesi congratulated the government on giving facelift to the Afrangua-Gyabankrom-Abura-Dunkwa road and urged the authorities to tar it.

Nana Obeng, the Mpuntuhene, called on the citizens of the area to be proactive in all their activities for the “betterment of the lives of their fellow men and themselves”.

A total of GH¢2,000 was raised at the function.
