Educationist supports Awutu Prison Camp
The Headmistress of the Light of the World School Complex at New Aplaku in Accra, Mrs Esther Hamilton, has drilled a borehole to ease the water problem at the Awutu Prison Camp at Awutu Bereku in the Central Region.
In addition, she is constructing a church building to replace a shed which is used as a church facility at the camp.
Mrs Hamilton, who has been assisting the prison camp over the years, inspected the borehole facility and the progress of work on the church when she feted inmates of the prison as part of the New Year festivities.
At the event, she provided some cooked food, drinks, water and GH¢50 each to the inmates.
According to Mrs Hamilton, her annual support for the prison was out of her desire to see an improvement in the lives of the inmates.
Helping prisoners
Helping prisoners, she said, was akin to what Jesus required of Christians to do to help the poor and support those in need.
“Prisoners are a group of people who touch the heart of Christ because of where they find themselves and the situation they are in. What I am providing for them is what God has given to me,” she said.
Mrs Hamilton admonished the inmates to give their lives to Jesus Christ “because He is the One who can transform your lives for the better when you are released.”
The Officer in charge of the prison camp, Superintendent William Thomas Anaman, thanked Mrs Hamilton for her support and stated that the camp previously spent about GH¢200 to buy water daily for the upkeep of the 150 inmates.
