Dad burns son with hot iron
A car dealer who burnt his son with a hot pressing iron and threatened to kill him if he had come near him, has been granted a $15 million bail by an Accra circuit court. The court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel Ankamah, has ordered the accused, Kweku Boateng, to pay all medical expenses of the boy, give the boys grandmother $150,000 every month and enroll the boy in a school.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Boison, the victim was living with his parents until his mother died from a illness at Darkuman. On December 9, the boy went to his father’s room to watch television with a playmate while his father was out of the house. Boateng on his return became infuriated, and querried his son for bringing a friend into his room. In anger, Boateng heated an iron and pressed it on the boy’s right leg. According to Inspector Boison, the victim went to his grandmother and reported the incident to her. When the grandmother contacted Boateng to hear his side of the story, he threatened to kill the boy if he ever comes near him.
Boateng was charged with the offence after investigations, and he is to reappear on January 15, 2003. The boy has been living with his grandmother ever since
