Colourful Sallahfest rounds off Eid-Ul-Fitr
It was an atmosphere of pomp and circumstance when Muslims converged on Nima in Accra last Saturday to celebrate this year’s Sallahfest to mark the end of Ramadan.
Sallahfest is perhaps one of the most important socialisation programmes for Muslims within the Zongo communities organised to mark Eid-Ul-Fitr.
Hundreds of celebrants thronged the streets of Nima, one of the biggest Muslim communities, to witness the array of activities to mark the occasion.
There was a procession of youth chiefs from the various ethnic groups within the Zongo communities dressed in full traditional regalia.
The youth became the centre of attraction as they danced to the different types of music provided by the traditional groups.
Horse riders also took centre stage with displays of various riding techniques.
Earlier in the day, the celebrants had been treated to a feast of different meals on a 600-metre table put together by VVIP, a transport company, in collaboration with EXP Ghana and Chapter 0.
Entertainment
The day was climaxed with an all-night concert hosted by VIP, a three-man musical group whose talents were uncovered at Nima more than 10 years ago.
They were supported by other musicians, including 4x4, Edem, Pappy Kojo, JoeyB, Trigmatic, Keche, Kwaw Kese, AK Songstress, FBS and Obrafour.
Some notable dancehall artistes within the Nima community, such as Platinum Minds (PM) and Ruddest Movements (RM), also electrified the atmosphere with a display of their dancing talents and entertainment skills.
