Christian body organises medical screening for Nkum residents

Give to Eat Mission, Ghana, a Christian missionary organisation based in Berlin, Germany, has organised a six-day free health-screening exercise for residents of Agona Nkum and surrounding communities in the Agona West municipality.

The exercise, which was supported by donors in Germany, attracted more than 1,200 residents, including people from Nyakrom, Nsuansa, Ahamadonko, Odom and Mbaampehia and other neighbouring communities.

It was a collaboration between Reverend Dr Kingsley Arthur, President of Give to Eat Mission, Ghana, a native of Agona Nkum and the Member of Parliament for Agona West, Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom.

The beneficiaries were taken through eye and dental screening and care as well as general medical examination.

Essence

Rev. Dr Arthur told the Daily Graphic that the exercise, which is the second of its kind, would be sustained and held annually to help improve the health of the residents.

He noted that since the area was deprived, most of the residents were not even able to register onto the National Health Insurance Scheme to be able to access health services.

He called on the residents to strive to know their health status through regular check-ups so that they could seek early treatment when necessary.

Achievements

He disclosed that his outfit had adopted the Nkum Catholic Basic School and was providing meals twice a week to about 561 pupils.

He said the foundation was currently sponsoring the education of about 20 children up to the senior high school level.

MP

The Member of Parliament, Mr Obeng-Inkoom, said to address the health needs of the people, he had supported the renovation of  the Nkum Health Centre to improve healthcare delivery.

He stated that work had started on the renovation of the doctor’s bungalow so that a medical assistant could be posted to take charge of the centre.

He said he would continue to collaborate with Dr Arthur towards the provision of quality health care for the people.
