Chiefs, opinion leaders urged to expose criminals to Police

The Ngoryifia (Development Chief) of the Afife Traditional Area and CEO of the Wilkado Group of Companies, Torgbui Gbewoaza I, has urged chiefs and opinion leaders to expose suspected criminals for the law to deal with them without any cover ups and interventions.

He said chiefs and the police should work together and get rid of miscreants and criminals in society, adding that the police must swiftly deal with all forms of criminal activities in the area without fear or favour.

He made the statement at a meeting in Tadzewu which was aimed at creating a fruitful and cordial working relationship between the Police and Paramount Chiefs of the Ketu North District.

It was on the theme “Cordial Police-Chiefs Co-existence, a Necessity for Proper Community Development”.

Togbui Gbewoaza I advised the chiefs to volunteer young able bodies to be trained by the Police into Neighbourhood Watch Committees.

He urged the youth to pursue education or other alternative careers and shun easy ways of making money, such as internet fraud (Sakawa).

The Divisional Commander of the Ghana Police in charge of Akatsi District, Chief Superintendent Howulu, highlighted some actions of chiefs which he said interferes in the discharge of their duties and hinders law enforcement.

He enumerated the various procedures in forming what is now called Neighbourhood Watch Committees to the chiefs.

The event brought together Police and chiefs from Dzodze, Akatsi South, and North and Abor commands.
