Breman Benin, Baako to get small town water systems
Two major towns in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District in the Central Region are to benefit from the Small Town Water Systems project under the World Bank International Development Assistance (IDA).
The beneficiary towns are Breman Benin and Baako. The project is intended to help address the perennial water shortages that confront the people in both towns.
The contract for the projects has been awarded and contractors are at the various sites to commence work.
This was disclosed by the District Chief Executive for the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, Mr Samuel Adom Botchway, during the first ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the sixth assembly sitting.

He said the district assembly had voted an amount of GH¢89,000 as counterpart funds for the project. The amount constitutes five per cent of the total cost of the project.
Financial performance
He said out of an estimated figure of GH¢72,365.33 the assembly had expected as internally generated fund, GH¢60,897.05 representing 84.15 per cent had been generated as at the end of March 31, 2014.
According to him, as part of efforts to boost the assembly’s revenue generation, discussions were underway for some revenue items to be ceded to private collectors for a commission.
School Feeding Programme
Mr Botchway said in an attempt to alleviate the challenges caterers with the School Feeding Programme faced, the assembly had taken delivery of 400 bags of rice from the Ghana Buffer Stock Company which had been distributed to the caterers.
He urged the assembly members whose electoral areas were benefiting from the programme to ensure that in spite of the challenges, the right things were done for the effectiveness and efficiency of the programme.
Road construction
Mr Botchway said the stretch of road from Breman Asikuma to Breman Amanfopong was currently under construction.
He commended the contractor executing the project for his commitment and appealed to drivers to be cautious when driving on that stretch of the road to reduce accidents.
