Vida Golomesio pleaded guilty to the offence of child stealing when she appeared before the court in Tamale.

Baby thief to know fate Wednesday

A Tamale Magistrate Court Monday deferred the sentence of the 38-year-old woman baby thief to Wednesday, October 14, 2015.

Vida Golomesio pleaded guilty to the offence of child stealing when she appeared before the court in Tamale.

She was arrested with a baby boy at Karaga on October 6, 2015 after absconding with the boy she snatched from the arms of the grandmother in front of the West Hospital in Tamale on Sunday, October 4, 2015.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr Augustine Essah, deferred the sentence of the accused person to enable him to confer with the mother of the baby who was not in court and also the complainant in the case.

The accused person, who pleaded guilty to the charge in court, said she had been married for a while now with no child and pressure from her husband and the family made her to commit the crime but the court rejected that explanation.

Facts

A brief fact of the case was that the accused, who spotted the mother of the child and the grandmother in front of the West Hospital, offered to assist them to pick a taxi home after the mother had been delivered of the baby on the same day at the hospital.

The accused person after snatching the baby who was in the arms of the grandmother absconded with the baby to Karaga where she was later arrested by the police based on distress calls sent to all police stations across the Northern Region.
