ATTA Foundation supports St Mary Theresa Hospital

A two-bedroom bungalow has been inaugurated for the doctors of the St Mary Theresa Hospital at Dodi Papase in the Kadjebi District in the Volta Region.
The 64,000-euro project was sponsored by the Stichting Atta Foundation, a non-governmental organisation based in Holland.

Inauguration

Inaugurating the project, the President of the foundation, Madam Annabelle van der Heden, appealed to Ghanaians to help protect and maintain state properties to prolong their lifespan.

She said Ghanaians, especially those at the helm of affairs, should consider those properties as theirs and extend the desired oversight and supervision for protection.

Madam van der Heden, who was accompanied by her two sons, Messrs Herman and Jaap, to inaugurate the project, said it was immoral and unacceptable to handle those properties with scorn just because they were for the state.

The Co-ordinator of the foundation, Mr Daniel Kojo Nyame, said the foundation had been working in the Kadjebi District since 2005 to help improve the standard of living of the people.

Achievements

According to him, the foundation had dug three boreholes for the people of Dodo-Fie, a borehole for irrigation at Dodo-Pepesu, supplied an ambulance to the St Mary Theresa Hospital and constructed a six-unit classroom block for the Kadjebi L/A Primary School, It had also constructed an 80-bed boys’ dormitory for the Dodi-Papase Senior High Technical School, a 40-unit computer centre for the Kadjebi RC JHS and supplied basic school items to 180 orphans, as well as provided skills training and supply of start-up materials for six youth to empower them financially to contribute meaningfully to national development, he said.

The rest, he said, were the construction of a steel bridge over the Asukawkaw River to link Dodo-Fie to Dodo-Amanfrom, in partnership with the Ghana Government; the construction of a 2.5-kilometre road from Dodo-Fie to Twitwafoa and the construction of a toilet facility with showers for the Dodi-Papase Senior High Technical School.

Mr Nyame said the foundation had also presented an ambulance to the Anfoega, the Margaret Marquart and the St Joseph hospitals in the North Dayi District and the Kpando and Koforidua municipalities.

He said it had also paid for the surgical operation of Ms Rukaya Ibrahim of Dodo-Amanfrom to correct her club-foot deformity.

The acting Diocesan Health Administrator of the Jasikan Diocese, Mr Stannard Issah Mahama, thanked the benefactors for the honour done the people and pledged to put the edifice to good use.

He appealed to the foundation to help complete a 34-unit staff bungalow initiated by the management of the hospital.
