Ashaiman Police round up 20 criminals

A line up of the suspected criminals at the Ashaiman Divisional Police Station.The Ashaiman Police have arrested 20 suspected criminals in an exercise aimed at clamping down on criminal activities in the Ashaiman municipality.

Items retrieved from the suspects included unregistered motorbikes, 100 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, substances suspected to be hard drugs and a portable drilling machine suspected to be used in breaking doors.

The exercise, which was undertaken in collaboration with the Tema Community 11 Police, covered areas such as Tulaku, Market Square and notable criminal hideouts in the vicinity.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Ashaiman, the Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Mr David Eklu, said the police had, for some time now been trailing the suspected criminals who had been a nuisance to the community.

He said the police had received many complaints from residents of Ashaiman and parts of Tema over harassment they had suffered from some criminals.

He said the criminals usually converged on their hideouts to prepare for their activities by smoking Indian hemp.

He said the police would continue to invade various ‘ghettoes’ noted to be the hideouts of criminal gangs as part of moves to protect lives and property.

Mr Eklu appealed to the public to assist the police trace criminal gangs to help reduce crime to the barest minimum.

He observed that residents of Tema communities Nine, 10, 11 and 12 had, of late, come under a series of robbery attacks.
