
Arts, Health and Wellness Symposium at National Theatre
An international symposium on the Arts, Health and Wellness, which forms part of a performance dubbed Agoro, is scheduled to take place from Monday, June 25 to Wednesday, June 27, at the National Theatre in Accra.
Topics lined up for presentations and discussions include “Contributions of the Arts to Health and Wellness”, “Contributions of Music and Dance to Healing of Individuals and Communities”, “Musical Healing Rituals of the Twelve Apostles Church in Ghana” and “Music, Alcohol and Wellbeing – The Ghanaian Experience”.
Others are “Movement Through the Arts - How Music Facilitates Paths of Movement”, “Physiological and Socio-Aesthetic Effects of Praise and Worship Tradition on Congregants in Ghanaian Churches” and “Whole Person Wellness and the Transformation of Health and Healthcare”.
Speakers include Prof. Modest Mawulolo Amegago (York University, Canada), Dr Kristofer Olsen (Montana State University, USA), Dr Jeffrey Russell (Ohio University) and Dr Angela Ofori-Atta (University of Ghana, Legon).
Others are Dr Happy-Mary Ablordey (University of Education Winneba), Devine Gbagbo (Ohio University), Amos Darkwa (University of Cape Coast), Sashar Zarif (multi-disciplinary artist / educator (Canada), Ursula Payne (Slippery Rock University USA), Dr Jennifer Petrie (University of Pittsburg, USA) and John Dordzro (University of Cape Coast).

The symposium is being organised by the National Theatre of Ghana in collaboration with Ohio University and Azaguno Inc.
Members of the symposium organising committee are Dr Sylvanus Kwashie Kuwor (Chairman), Dr Angela L. Ofori-Atta, Mr. Nii-Tete Yartey, John Owoo, Prince Kwarteng-Crooklyn, Dr. Zelma Badu-Younge and Dr. Paschal Yao Younge with Dr. Jeffrey Russell as keynote speaker.
