Antrak Aircraft fire: Investigations underway

Operators of Antrak Air Ghana have launched investigations into a fire incident on one of its aircrafts en route Accra from Tamale, Friday morning.

One of the engines of the aircraft was said to have caught fire mid-air 20 minutes after it had taken off from the Tamale airport.

In a statement, the Chief Commercial Officer of the airline, Kwaku Antwi-Boasiako said investigations were underway but confirmed that one of the engines of the aircraft with registration number EC-KUL caught fire mid-air.

He said the Captain detected the fire 20 minutes into the flight and returned safely to land at the Tamale airport.

There were no injury or casualty, according to Antwi-Boasiako.

Meanwhile, the airline says it has made alternative travel arrangements for passengers who have been affected by the grounding of the aircraft.

This is not the first time
an Antrak Air aircraft has caught fire.

In May 2012, Majority Leader of Parliament, Cletus Avoka and flagbearer for the Convention People’s Party in the 2012 elections, Abu Sakara were among passengers onboard an Accra bound Antrak airplane when it caught fire at the Tamale Airport.
