Adormeh gets first place of convenience
The people of Adormeh, a community in Odumase Krobo in the Lower Manya District of the Eastern Region, have celebrated the inauguration of the first public place of convenience in the area.
Each half of the facility has eight toilets for men and women, respectively.
The project was funded by the Adormeh Development Association (ADA) at a cost of GH¢8,000.
The Chairman of the ADA, Mr Noah Tetteh Matey, said the project was begun by Mr Emmanuel Agyarko, a citizen of Odumase Krobo and current Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon in the Greater Accra Region.
Unfortunately, he said, the project was abandoned for years.
He said the association took it upon itself to continue with the project in 2010 and had it completed in October 2014.
Mr Martey said residents of Adormeh would be charged small fee for the use of the facility. Adormeh has a population of about 3,000 people.
He said monies that would accrue from the fees would be used to maintain the facility.
Other projects
Mr Martey, who is also the Accra Regional Manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA), said the association had also provided street lighting for Adormeh.
He said the association intended to put up two standpipes to enhance access to pipe borne water.
In addition, he said, the association was considering building a market and a community centre for the community.
