AB Review launches education fair
AB Review, an educational research and consultancy firm, has launched a two-day educational fair dubbed "Edu Fair Gh" at the British Council in Accra .
The fair served as a platform for students and parents to gain more information on school requirements, scholarships, courses and career path.
In his opening address, Mr Abel Ohene Aquaye, Executive Director and founder of AB review said the whole idea was to create an interactive platform for schools and education providers.
“Here, parents, students tend to get more information to help them make better educational decisions.
“What we seek to do is to help students make better informed decisions and to create a platform for all the providers to interact with each other and through the interactions they can hopefully recruit prospective students for the next academic year,” he said.
Elliot Agyare, a participant at the fair and CEO of Smartline publications, believes Ghana's youth are eager to do something for themselves but find it difficult to navigate through the educational system.
According to him, the essence of education is to aid students access knowledge and also apply it for self-improvement.
He said the educational system in the country was not innovative and therefore called for more educational fairs to highlight some of the deficiencies.
Guest speaker for the event, educationist Annis Haffar, who spoke on the topic 'Developing world class students', advised students to use their education to prepare for a lifetime of employment opportunities.
According to him the future is dynamic and changes are inspired by the digital age.
Mr Haffar observed that courses in school are now beginning to get obsolete and therefore a need for students to use the courses they learn in school as tools to be used for a purpose.
“The country is abounding with opportunities and it is time for students to mould themselves into courses that are purposeful. Courses by themselves are mere tools unless we begin to convert them together for a purpose”.
