3 Denu fugitives arrested
Following a tip-off, three out of the seven persons who broke cell at the Denu Police Station have been rearrested at Agbozume in the Ketu South District in the Volta Region.
The Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, confirmed this to the Daily Graphic in Ho yesterday.
He, however, did not disclose the names of the recaptured escapees.
On Sunday, March 15, 2015, the seven suspected criminals who were in lawful custody at the cell of the Denu Police Station for various offences escaped.
They were said to have overpowered two police officers who were on duty at the time of the jailbreak.
Fugitives
The all-male fugitives allegedly made away with two AK47 rifles and 25 rounds of ammunition.
However, luck eluded six others who also attempted to escape, when they were overpowered by the police.
Following the incident, the police mounted an intensive search for the jail breakers as far as into neighbouring Togo where their photographs were circulated.
In addition, the police officers who were on duty at the time were tasked to produce the escapees within 10 days or face severe sanctions.
Reports indicate that the police officers have since been interdicted.
