US Navy sponsors classroom block for Gromesa
The US Navy sponsored the project through the US Embassy in Ghana.
Mr Ray Mabus, accompanied by the US Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Gene Cretz, and some male and female naval officers from the US, said the project became a reality as a result of an interaction he had with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, somewhere last year during a visit to Kumasi. Otumfuo the Asantehene had told his guest that education was his utmost priority and, therefore, decided to assist schools in the very deprived areas to improve education standards.
The Gromesa Junior High School (JHS), which is in a very deprived area, was chosen by the District Directorate of Education because it was adjudged the overall best school during the 2011 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Adansi South District.
Mr Mabus noted that the facility would provide a conducive and serene atmosphere for teaching and learning while the public place of convenience would also save the teachers and pupils from contracting sanitation-related diseases.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akrofuom, Mr Kwabena Appiah-Pinkrah, commended the US government for the gesture
He appealed to the donors to provide similar facilities in other deprived areas in the constituency.
