UCMAS students to showcase brainpower
Thirty schoolchildren from various schools across the country will, on November 11, 2016, join 3,000 children worldwide to participate in the 21st Universal Concept Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS) International Competition in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The annual event provides an opportunity for all UCMAS students to showcase their brain power, calculation, speed, accuracy and proficiency in Abacus and mental Arithmetic skills.
During the competition, each participating student has within eight minutes to solve between 100-200 Arithmetic problems, depending on their UCMAS level and category.
The contestants from Ghana were picked from the UCMAS National Competition held at Burma Camp in Accra.

UCMAS is a unique and scientifically proven mental development programme designed for children to develop their mental power at a very early age when brain development is reaching its peak.
Winners at the international event will be presented with cash prizes and trophies.
Embrace the concept
Speaking at a ceremony to introduce some of the contestants who will embark on the trip to Dubai, the Director of UCMAS Ghana, Mr Girish Gurgans, said this year’s competition will be the sixth time Ghana is making an appearance.
“And the time we have been there we have taken grand prizes such as first prizes, second prize and third prize before. This year, hopefully, it will not be different,” he said.
He, therefore, urged parents and school authorities to embrace the unique teaching concept to help build the brains of the children early, so that they would be able to memorise things at an early age.
