UCC honours retired workers
Sixty-eight retired workers of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have been honoured at a send-off ceremony for their meritorious service.
Those honoured included the first ever longest-serving female staff member since the inception of the award ceremony, Ms Eva Boatemaa Anim, and Mr Jacob Arthur, who served the university for 40 years.
The retirees include 17 senior members, 24 senior staff and 27 junior staff members. They had served the university for periods ranging from 15 to 41 years in various capacities.
They received fridges, LCD television sets, furniture, cash and citations for their awards.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor D. D. Kuupole, commended the retirees for their loyalty and commitment to duty.
He said the university would consider rewarding people for quality of service with extra awards.
He said UCC would create an office for the retirees to come around and share experiences with the workers to help tap their expertise for efficiency.
Prof. Edward Ntifo-Siaw expressed his appreciation for the honour and appealed to the university to organise early training on retirement to ensure workers invested properly for retirement.
He also appealed for the early payment of their retirement benefits.
