Bring back music to basic schools — MUSIGA
Last Wednesday, June 21, was celebrated as World Music Day and in a statement to mark the occasion, the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure that music education is reintroduced at the basic level of our educational system.
MUSIGA said its appeal was based on the immense benefits music education offers to individuals and the nation as a whole.
“Some of the benefits are the development of the areas of the brain related to language and reasoning; mastery of memorisation; emotional development; improvement of creative thinking and enhanced self-confidence,” the MUSIGA statement said.
Music education was cancelled from the basic schools curricula in this country in the wake of the 31st December 1981 military uprising.
