Wesley Girls High School wins STUDRAFEST 2018

Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast beat four other schools to emerge winners of this year's Joe De-Graft the Central regional edition Students Drama festival in Cape Coast on Saturday.

They polled 80 points with their well-acted play, "The Pot of Peace", to beat second-placed Mfantsiman who bagged 65 points with their play "Crossed Fate".

Wesley Girls also picked up awards for the Best Directed Play, the Best Costumed Play, Best Set Design, Best Makeup, Best Managed Play and Best Performed Play.

Adisadel College in Cape Coast had 58 points with their play "Who killed Adobea.

Ghana National College placed fourth with 57 points with their play "Cooked in an Earthenware Pot" while Eguafo Senior High came fifth with "Generational Curse."

The Best Playwright award went to John Baidoo of Eguafo Senior High School.
The Best Actress-lead role went to Gloria Appiah of Eguafo Senior High while the Best Actress- supporting role went to Gerald Nelson of Adisadel College.

Best Actors lead role jointly went to Ann Marie Provencal and Lorriane Amponsah both of WGHS

Thematic Areas

Thus year's festival was celebrated on thematic areas including education and national development, nationalism and patriotism, politics, religious and ethnic tolerance, cultural renaissance, arts and culture.

Other areas included cultural expression, good governance, national values and freedom and justice.

Representatives of WGHS receive a plague from Madam Oparebea, Director of the CNC 

The programme was sponsored by Becky Kay Restuarant, Global Host Project and Sepecs Graphics.

The Director of the Centre for National Culture, Madam Christina Oparebea said the festival was organized to help student to unearth their talents in the creative arts.

She commended the participating schools for their creativity and hard work and said the CNC would continue to work with interested stakeholders to promote and preserve the arts and culture and to help sustain the Ghanaian heritage.

Publishing Stories

Madam Oparebea said the CNC in partnership with the Ghana Association of Writers would work on publishing the stories into a book for future use.

An Adjudicator for the programme a d a senior lecturer at the Department of Music and Dance at the University of Cape Coast, Mr Elolo Gharbin work on emotions and how to maximize the use of stage.

Mr Reginald Myres Sackey who chaired the function encouraged students to confidently pursue the creative arts saying there were many opportunities to explore there.
