Letters: Let’s check human activities that cause floods
Dear Editor, The recent rains have really caused havoc to people and businesses. This is indeed worrying.
When there is a heavy downpour, children are affected because they are unable to go to school and learning hours are lost. Also, there may be an outbreak of diseases.
Although the government is engaged in a number of activities to prevent flooding, I believe more needs to be done because it is the same story every year. Our human activities have also contributed to the floods - littering, improper disposal of waste, building on watercourses among others.
We have to check ourselves and put a stop to all activities that cause flooding in the country. Government must also play its part and fulfil all the promises made to prevent flooding and its effects in the country.
Sena Mensah,
Suhum
