Kudos, Junior Graphic — From parents, school heads
Junior Graphic is 15 years. Hurray! The Junior Graphic in the last 15 years has remained the only newspaper in the country that gives children a voice and serves their needs weekly.
Some parents and school proprietors share their experience with us.
Mrs Deborah Baddo,
Proprietress, Additrom School,
Adabraka.
The school has subscribed to the Junior Graphic for 15 years now and it has really been of help to students. At the Additrom School, we urge students to buy the paper because the contents are up to their level.

The paper also encourages creativity in children by allowing them to bring in their own articles for publication. Students’ contributions to the paper through the writing of letters, short stories and other articles have helped them cultivate the habit of reading and writing.
As a school, we also use the questions in the Rack Your Brain column on Page 10 as our questions when we conduct quizzes. This practice has, therefore, whipped up the interest of students to buy the paper so as to help them come tops when the quizzes are held.
I recommend that the questions on the educational pages be increased.
Mrs Nana Ayesua
Tham-Akowuah,
Proprietress, Virgo
Preparatory School
Adabraka.
Virgo Preparatory School has been subscribers of the Junior Graphic for almost 15 years now and we have benefited so much from the paper. Pupils from Class Two to JHS Three students always have a copy of the Junior Graphic every wednesday.
I personally go through the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) past questions published in the paper with the JHS Three students and this helps them a lot.
I also encourage them to read the feature stories to get more ideas in writing their essays. Somehow, the students’ involvement with the paper has improved the way they write essays and they have also learnt new words which appear in the paper.
My only hope is that you increase the pages of the paper so that students will get a lot more ideas and knowledge. I wish you all the best on your 15th anniversary, my prayer is that you continue the good work you are doing for children.
Mrs Faustina Laryea,
Proprietress, Falsyd Foundation School,
Achimota.
It’s been one-and-a-half years since we begun to subscribe to the Junior Graphic. The paper has helped some of our students come out of their shells and now are very bold. They are able to participate in competitions organised by the paper. They also get to meet new people and make new friends.
Through the Junior Graphic, academic work of students have improved and their talents are also being developed.
For instance, the Colour Me column helps children polish their skills in drawing. After many hours of serious academic work, the students relax with the jokes and riddles in the paper. The paper has also given exposure to the Falsyd Foundation School as our programmes and activities are published in the paper which makes the children very happy, especially when they see themselves in the paper.
I say ‘ayekoo’ to the team, indeed the Junior Graphic is living up to its motto of serving the youth of Ghana.
Mrs Lucy Ohene-Boakye, Parent.
I started reading the then Junior Graphic when I was in Form One in 1961 and I still read it before I give it to the young ones. I like everything about the paper.
The paper gives children something useful to read regularly. The news stories for instance are well written, there are lots of moral lessons from the Short stories to shape the lives of children.
My personal favourite is the I’ll tell my story column, that page inspires children to be like those personalities.
Recently, you introduced the Increase your Word Bank column, that column as well makes students learn new words to increase their vocabulary. In fact I like the Junior Graphic very much. It’s not only helpful to children but adults as well.
My only reservation is that the paper focuses more on schools in the urban centres. My hope is that you penetrate the hinterlands and feature schools in the rural areas as well. For instance, the story about the Form Three students from the Bebuso Roman Catholic Junior High School who joined their mates at the Mary Mother of Good Counsel School in Accra to study was very commendable and such initiatives should be continued.
I take this opportunity to wish the Junior Graphic all the best and pray that the years ahead would be even better than now. Congratulations!
Mr Francis Thompson, Parent.
Every Wednesday, I buy the Junior Graphic for my children. The paper is a very good reading material for children and it serves as a supplementary reader for them. The Speak good english column is very helpful to my children.
The paper also encourages healthy competition among students through the essay writing and spelling competitions, not to mention the fun fair the paper organises for its readers.
Through all these competitions, children’s talents are harnessed in varied healthy and fun ways, therefore, I encourage all parents to buy the paper regularly for their children so that they can improve on their writing skills.
However, please consider reducing the price from GH¢1.50 to GH¢1 so that a lot of parents can afford it for their children.
