Ghanaian boxing prodigy
Ghanaian boxing prodigy, Joseph "Jojo" Awinongya Jnr., has been tipped for a world champion bout in the United States of America (USA) in future if he maintains his current form.
Awinongya Jnr., nine, is a US-born Ghanaian, whose father, Joseph Awinongya, trains boxers in the Will County Boxing Gym in Joliet, Illinois.
The young promising boxer is currently ranked number one in his 80lbs Division in the USA, and is expected to take boxing by storm after 16 impressive fights.
Awinongya Jnr. is the reigning National Silver Gloves champion in the 80lbs Division, making him an instant hit at a very tender age. He is now touted as a future great boxer by the bookmakers in the United States.
His father, Mr Awinongya, a former Ghanaian Cruiserweight boxer, told the Junior Graphic in an interview that he was ready to help his son realise his dream of becoming a world champion in the future.
He added that he was keen on seeing Awinongya Jnr rise to fame in the USA to serve as motivation for Ghanaian children.
"My son Jojo is very disciplined and he is making waves in the USA. At this tender age, Jojo is already talking of being a champion someday and I’m committed to ensuring that he realises his dream.”
“ As a former boxer, I have what it takes to guide him to greater heights,” he noted.
"I don't want him to forget about his roots so it will be ideal to use his rise to fame in the USA to help motivate the young ones here in Ghana,” he added.
