Admission to universities to increase
The government has set aside GH¢7million to expand facilities in tertiary institutions in the country to enable them to increase the number of students to be admitted this year.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Education, Mr Paul K. Krampah, who made this known to the Junior Graphic, explained that the expansion programme was being done to enable the institutions to accommodate the large number of students who completed senior high school this year.
He said the institutions to included public universities, polytechnics, training colleges among others.
Mr Krampah said a committee had been set up by the ministry, with the Deputy Minister, Mr Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa as chairman to reassess the institutions to find out their needs so that they could be addressed.

He said some of the institutions have structures such as lecture halls which were about 80 per cent complete, while others might need additional tables and chairs.
He assured that all the needs of these institutions would be met.
Mr Krampah further said the ministry had met with some vice chancellors of the universities who had expressed interest to increase the number of students to be admitted to satisfy those who qualify to enter the universities.
For instance, he said the University of Professional Studies would increase its intake by 100 per cent for both degree and diploma courses.
The PRO also said the universities had been asked to postpone their reopening dates so that students could be considered for admission when their results were released.
