Former Black Maidens captain Mukarama Abdulai continues with her soccer exploits in the United States as she recorded yet another success with her selection as one of the players for the United Soccer Coaches All-America Team of the Year.
At an awards ceremony held at Baltimore last Friday, the 17-year-old football star was recognised among other selected players and coaches for their excellent performance in the year under review.
According to her, the award was one of her highest points since she joined the Tyler Junior College in August last year expressing appreciation to the organisers for the recognition.
“It feels good. It’s a great honour and I thank God for it. I also thank the leadership of the United Soccer Coaches for monitoring my progress and selecting me among these great players, coaches and other great personalities.”
“I also want to thank my parents, my coach and all the people who are supporting me in both my career and education. I will keep working hard for the best,” she said over the telephone.”
In November, Mukarama assisted her school to win the 2019 National Junior College Athletics Association Women’s Soccer Championship where she scored six goals with four assists and won the Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year.
Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kano, who graduated from the Southeastern University in Florida in December was also honoured as the National Player of the Year 2019 for her exceptional output while in the school.
Also recognised on the day was former coach of the United States women’s football team, Jill Ellis, who received the Women and Girls in Soccer Excellence Award.
The United Soccer Coaches administers an extensive awards and recognition programme which includes Coach of the Year, All-America Team 0. +, long-term service and special recognition awards designed to celebrate excellence in soccer, academics and service to the game.
In all, more than 11,000 awards are presented by United Soccer Coaches each year. These awards and recognition are available only to United Soccer Coaches member coaches and their players.
