Fatawu Safiu scores debut goal as Trelleborgs FF win 2-1 over Vasteras SK

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko forward Abdul Fatawu Safiu opened his scoring account for Trelleborgs FF in their 2-1 home victory over Vasteras SK in the Swedish lower league.

Swedish forward Mattias Hakansson scored the opener on the 11th minute before Safiu added the second on the 44th minute to register his first goal for the club as they headed to the break with a comfortable lead.

From recess, Vasteras SK pulled one back courtesy Brian Span's strike.

Safiu was substituted on the 90th minute for Zoran Jovanovic. Trelleborgs FF now lie 11th on the table with 27 points after 22 games in the season.

The striker became an influential player for the Porcupine Warriors' set up after he joined from Eleven Wonders FC.

The former Shirak SC and Vancouver Whitecaps youngster netted thrice and assisted two in the 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup campaign for Kotoko .

Safiu banged in 11 goals to help Kotoko to clinch the Normalisation Committee (NC) Special Competition Tier 1, which has given them the opportunity to represent Ghana in the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League.

Following his outstanding performances for the golden city club, Safiu was included in Ghana's provisional squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

He joined Trelleborgs a fortnight ago.
