Tennis: GTF name team for 2019 Davis Cup

These players will represent Ghana at this year's Davis Cup

The leadership of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) has announced the final team for this year’s Davis Cup comprising US-based players Isaac Teitei Nortey and Herman Abban together with local athletes Benjamin Palm and Johnson Acquah.

The team will travel to Congo Brazzaville on Monday, June 24, for the competition and return on Sunday, June 30.

Ghana is drawn in Group IV which includes Cameroon, Rwanda, Botswana, Congo, and Uganda.

According to president of the GTF, Mr Isaac Aboagye Duah, the team will have their final leg of training at the Accra Sports stadium courts at 9am and 12noon as well as evening between 4pm and 6pm daily till their departure.

He said the GTF board was grateful to the Managing Director of Lone Star Oil Company Limited and a patron of the Army Mess as well as Atomic Tennis Clubs, Mr Charles Addo-Quaye for funding the tracksuits and jerseys for the team.

Mr Addo-Quaye also donated an undisclosed amount for the upkeep of the team. Ambassador Ramses Cleland also donated an undisclosed amount to support the accommodation costs of the team.

Mr Aboagye Duah also commended the contributions of the CEO of the McDan Group, Dr Daniel Mckorley, for his continuous support in diverse ways for Ghana tennis and the Davis Cup in particular.
 
“Indeed we are grateful and honoured” Mr Aboagye Duah said.
