Xmas Cricket Cup starts tomorrow

The field of Awisa Presbyterian Boarding School at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region will come alive as young budding cricket talents stake their claim to the sport in the serene vicinity tomorrow in a special tournament dubbed: Christmas Cricket Cup.

Six cricket academies will display their talents and fight for the prestigious trophy, medals and other rewards at stake in the presence of Nana Kwarteng Karikari II, the Awisa Manhene.

The six participating academies are, Saka Homes Ladies Cricket Club in Accra, Accra-based SBINC Lions Cricket Club and Awisa Cricket Academy at Awisa.

The rest are Swedru Cricket Academy, Akyem Swedru, Laommah Cricket Academy, Awisa and Nuriyah Cricket Academy also at Awisa.

The competition will be played in six overs and with a hard ball. It will entail a knockout format with the losing team facing the exit.

The event which is organised by the Birim South District Cricket Association is  expected to attract The Zongo Chief Imam of the area, the Member of Parliament, Mr Kofi Osafo Maafo, the son of the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo and an indigene of the area, the district chief executive, district physical education coordinator and the district director of education, Birim South.

The competition is being sponsored by SBNIC Solutions and Kofi Osafo Maafo, Ockendon Academy in the United Kingdom and Kings Church Upminster also in the United Kingdom.The competition is expected to climax this weekend.
