Ghana's top male table tennis players, Derek Abrefa and Felix Lartey have secured a USD $ 5,000 sponsorship package from Stanbic Bank to enable them to compete in a 3-day competition in Florida, United State of America.

The duo are scheduled to depart Accra on December 11, to compete in the “Butterfly 2019 December BTTC open tournament” in Florida slated for December 13 to 15.

As part of their trip,after the main competition, the two will undergo a three months intensive training programme in the USA and will be supervised by level three coaches to put them in good shape for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifiers in

Tunisia early next year.
The sponsorship package presented to them includes, plane tickets, accommodation, inner city transport, feeding and other spending.

At a meeting at the Bank's head office in Accra last Thursday, December 5, where the sponsorship package was made known. Officials of the bank, Kojo Larbi and Kojo Sampson, noted that the Money Wallet unit of the company took the mantle to sponsor the duo because of their performance over the years.

" Abrefa and Lartey are potential world class players and the “money wallet” is a world standard card. So we have paired the two world class performers.

“We have no doubt that the tournament and the training regimes would enhance their performance in the sport. We are sure they will compete well to lift high the flag of Ghana,” Kojo Larbi said.

Derek Abrefa, who spoke on behalf of the duo expressed their gratitude about the sponsorship and promised they will do their best at the tournament.

“We thank Stanbic Bank, especially the Money Wallet Unit for the confidence they have in us to sponsor us. Felix and I have trained for this tournament and we are sure of doing better to make Ghana proud.

He continued, “the package will help us compete in the event and also help us to undergo a 3 months’ training programme to prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games qualifiers next month in Tunisia," Abrefa said.
