Freight Forwarding company, Sapholda Ventures Limited have injected GHC10,000 into Top-8 Volleyball championship which begins today at the Lebanon House and Elwak Sports Stadium in Accra respectively.
The two-day tournament slated for Friday and Saturday comprises the top eight ladies and men’s teams in Greater Accra.
The Marketing manager of Sapholda Ventures , Ebo Acquaye who disclosed this to the Graphic Sports noted that an additional GHC10,000 would be delivered to Greater Accra Volleyball for the organisation of the league.
He stated that his outfit is geared towards promoting sporting activities for the youth as a source of employment and livelihood with much focus on the least financed sporting disciplines.
“We are committed to promoting the lesser-known sports in the country, growing and developing the structures of these disciplines in the country”, he noted to this paper.
He called for a competitive tournament and promised his outfit’s resolve to present awards to deserving players.
The participating teams in the ladies category are Police, Airforce, Immigration, Army, Fire Service, El-Wak Wings and Osu Youth.
The mens’ division comprises Police, Airforce, Prisons, El-Wak Wings, Immanuel Presby, Immigration, Fire Service and Army.
Teams in the womens’ Group A are Police, Army, Fire Service and Osu Youth while ladies’ Group B involves Immigration, AirForce,Prisons and El-Wak Wings.
The mens’ Group A has Police Service, Immanuel Presby Church, Immigration and Army, while Group B comprises Airforce, Prisons, Fire Service and El-Wak Wings.
Mr George Tetteh, president of the Greater Accra Volleyball Association (GAVA), told the Daily Graphic that the competition is to tap new talents for the country and increase awareness about the league for corporate sponsorship and individual support.
