The Millennium Marathon Sports Limited, organisers of the annual Millennium Marathon will organise a 10km pre - marathon event on Saturday, June 30, starting from their offices at Nima, opposite the Frankies Hotel through some principal streets of Accra and back to the starting point.
The event, which is open to keep fit clubs, schools, churches and individuals forms part of activities meant to build up momentum ahead of the grand event which will come off on Saturday, September 22 at the Independence Square.
So far, the organisers have held a number of activities, including the official launch of the Millennium Marathon Raffle held in May at the offices of the National Lotteries Authority, a visit to the factories of Twellium Ghana Limited at Nsawam, a sponsor of the event and a short ceremony held on Wednesday, June 27 to unveil Impact Clinic as official medical outfit for the event.
According to Ambassador Ashim Morton, the CEO of the Millennium Marathon, this year’s event has been designed to encourage more people to participate.
“We want to encourage more people to take athletics and long distance running serious so we are bringing two top athletes from East Africa including Mariam Ismail from Tanzania, to participate in this year’s event.
The event is sponsored by Verna Mineral Water, Run Energy Drink, Elite Sports, Blue Skies, Papaye, Japan Motors, Alliance Insurance, Can-West and Unilever.
