The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof. Patrick Twumasi, has assured of his outfit’s commitment to pay the per diem of players of both the national male and female hockey teams for the period they spent in Stellenbosch, South Africa, during the Tokyo 2020 Africa qualifier.
He said for winning bronze and silver medals for the nation during the qualifier last month, the players would be adequately rewarded as a way of motivating them to excel in future tournaments.
Prof. Twumasi, who gave the assurance when players and officials of the two teams presented their medals to him at the Media Centre of the Accra Stadium , presented GH¢10,000 cash to them as the NSA’s contribution to support the players.
“The budget for the tournament was not much but the NSA will not only give you your per diem for the period you participated in the Tokyo 2020 tournament but will also make arrangement to give you something valuable for winning silver and bronze for the country,” he assured.
He said since the medals won in South Africa had increased the medal haul of Ghana during the All African Games in Morocco, he would arrange for the players to meet President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House and present their medals to him.
“We are all Ghanaians so we have to reward and celebrate you very well for your feat as a way of motivating you,” he noted.
Earlier, the Vice President of the GHA, Madam Safoah King, who led the delegation, briefed the NSA boss on the tournament and the effort put up by the technical team and players to make it possible for them to win the medals for Ghana.
