India Community Cricket reaches semis

Three teams have qualified to the semi-finals of the ongoing India Community Cricket Tournament which is being staged at the Achimota Cricket Oval in Accra.

Balaji Group of Companies (BGC) Cricket Club, who defeated Paper by 101 runs in a Group B match and Salt and Paper, who beat Karizma by 67 runs in another Group B encounter, have all qualified to the semi-finals.

Joining them from Group A is Carell Super Kings (CSK), who beat MMG Cricket Club in the quarter-finals.

The last semi-final spot will be decided between IPMC Cricket Club and MMG Cricket Club on Sunday at the Achimota Cricket Oval.
The eight-team tournament, which began on November 24, will see the semi-finals being staged on December 15 and the final on December 22 at the same venue.

Ghana-based Indian cricket enthusiast, Akoliyah Patel, who is the brain behind the competition, told the Daily Graphic that the event was to engender a sense of community and togetherness among the Indian community in Ghana.
“We also want to have fun, socialise and network among ourselves while creating awareness of the sport and supporting the

Ghana Cricket Association to grow and develop the game,” he stated.

He stressed that the Indian community in Ghana was ready to contribute its quota to support Ghana cricket to become a giant.
Mr Patel appealed to corporate entities to support the game and the competition to sustain the sport in the country.
