Ghana to host first global badminton tourney

The Badminton Association of Ghana (BAG) has put together a four-day global badminton tournament to be staged from July 12 to 15 at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) Sports Centre in Tema.

The event, dubbed “J E Wilson Ghana International Series”, is expected to bring together 124 athletes from 22 countries across the globe.

The categories to be competed in are the men and women’s singles, men and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

According to the president of the Association, Evans Yeboah, 20 countries have so far registered for the tournament which is expected to be one of the biggest sporting events on the calendar of the association.

The participating countries include Nigeria, Benin, Egypt, Senegal, Togo, South Africa, Czech Republic, India, Malaysia, Belgium, Portugal and the US.

Ghana is expected to parade top stars such as Emmanuel Yaw Donkor, Abraham Ayittey, Daniel Sam, Ebenezer Andrews, Emmanuel Botwe, Grace Attipaka and Eyram Migdodzi to do battle with their counterparts from other countries for laurels.
