The Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) has secured sponsorship package from the state-owned Ghana Gas Limited to help develop infrastructure at the Achimota Cricket Oval ahead of preparation towards 2023 African Games in Ghana

The financial assistance, according to the GCA, would help in giving the Achimota Cricket Oval the needed facelift to prepare athletes in the sport ahead of the continental sports showpiece to be hosted in the country.

Support to sporting disciplines

In presenting the cheque to the GCA, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas Limited, Dr Benjamin K. D. Asante, noted that the support formed part of their numerous assistance to least financed disciplines in the country ahead of preparations towards the African Games.

Dr Asante explained that their decision to offer the financial support to cricket would help build the capacity of the youth that wish to participate in the next edition of the African Games.

“We are glad to be giving assistance to the various sporting disciplines in the country because it forms part of ways to help develop talents of the youth.

“We believe the financial support would go a long way to refurbish the practice nets at the Achimota Oval in order to give it a facelift,” Dr Asante said.

Appreciation

In receiving the cheque, the President of the GCA, Emmanuel Owusu Asare, was grateful to the company and stated that the financial support was relevant to their quest to refurbish the practice nets at the Achimota Oval.

He explained that the assistance represented a big relief to the association as they gave the venue a facelift to help in the development of the sport.

“I want to first of all thank Ghana Gas for the huge support they have given us. It is a big relief to us while we are trying to squeeze ourselves to make things happen by refurbishing the nets at the Achimota Oval,” he said.
