Delegates at the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) congress have elected Dr K.D. Asante as the new president of the association. He won the polls held at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra on July 7 with nine voted, defeating his main challenger, James Amo-Gottfried, who polled seven votes.
Chairman of Citizens International Hockey Club, Dr Asante takes over from Richard Akpokavie to steer the association for the next four years. He called for unity among members of the hockey fraternity to accelerate the pace of development of the sport, noting that the two biggest challenges confronting Ghana hockey were inadequate funding and a lack of infrastructure.
The position of vice president went to Elizabeth King, the immediate past treasurer of the association who defeated Kwame Owusu (Kowus) by nine votes against seven.
Two other officers, Frank Oti-Mensah and Grace Ankomah, were also elected as Ordinary Executive members to help steer the affairs of the association, while Albert Ofori was elected as the treasurer.
