The annual National Chess Championship dubbed "President Cup" is slated to take place from June 30-July 1 at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch in Accra.
The competition which is being sponsored by Pharmaceutical and IT Company, Reis&Co LTD, will bring all top chess players together over to compete for the topmost prize.
According to organisers, Ghana Chess Association (GCA), they will be giving out a cash prize of $2,000 for winners of the competition.
The flagship event on the calendar of the GCA is expected to draw exciting pairings among the country's best players in a bid to grab the bragging rights.
In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Philip Ameku, president of the GCA, said he anticipates a tough and successful championship in the three-day event.
"The competition promises to live up to its billing with tough and exciting pairings. It will be a success I believe," h said.
Meanwhile, ahead of the championship, Reis&Co, has contributed $1000 towards the President Cup tournament.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Peter Vanderwuff, his outfit decided to redeem their pledge of support to the GCA and its activities especially as they plan of taking the game to some selected secondary schools in the country.
