Asante Kotoko on Sunday suffered their first defeat in the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League when they were beaten 1-0 by visiting Berekum Chelsea at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.
Kofi Owusu scored the only goal of the match in the seventh minute, which proved decisive for the visiting team and saw the Porcupine Warriors dropping to the seventh position on the league log.
Although Kotoko dominated possession, they were unable to find the back of the net as their loanee goalkeeper, Ibrahim Danlad, came back to haunt them by ensuring that the Porcupine Warriors could not get past him with the ball.
The beautiful game was, however, marred by a poor decision on the part of referee Charles Bulu in the 80th minute when he dished out his yellow card to Ampem Darko after he was misled by his fourth official, Julian Nii Acquah Nunoo.
Kwame Adom Frimpong was involved in an off-the-ball incident but when referee Bulu enquired from the fourth official he pointed to Darko, who was already on a yellow card, as the culprit.

Just when he decided to dish out the yellow card, Frimpong owned up but referee Bulu stood his grounds and flashed the red card to the face of Darko, which infuriated the fans.
The angry fans started throwing objects onto the pitch, which disrupted play for about eight minutes until players of Kotoko intervened by urging the supporters to calm down for play to continue.
When the game eventually resumed, Kotoko kept the pressure on the visitors but much as they tried, they were unable to score the equalising goal.
