Mario Balotelli may have just suffered racist abuse at Verona, but the Brescia striker could be sued by Verona’s local council after the forward had to be coaxed back on to the pitch.
Balotelli was a target of racial abuse in Brescia’s 2-1 loss to Hellas Verona.
On Tuesday, the head of a Hellas Verona ultras supporters group who racially abused the Italy international was handed an 11-year ban by the Serie A club.
Now, a group of local councilors have proposed a motion asking the mayor to “take legal action against the player and all those who unfairly attack Verona with defamatory statements”, according to a document published by Gazzetta dello Sport.
“It is no longer fair that Verona is put in the dock when, as in this case, nothing happened,” the document added.
