The two biggest clubs in the country, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko are locked up in a tussle for the signature of Asantigold's Shafiu Mummuni.
Hearts and Kotoko have enquired about the possibility of signing Ashantigold's price asset who has less than five months left on his contract.
According to sources close to the player, Hearts held a meeting last Thursday to discuss the availabity of Shafiu in which majority shareholder, Togbe Afede XIV, directed the club to make official bid for the player.
The source revealed that the player’s handlers were contacted after the meeting and held fruitful discussions.
However, prior to Hearts enquiries, Kotoko, through coach Maxwell Konadu, had phoned the 24-year-old prolific forward to inform him about the club’s interest in bringing him to Kumasi.
“It is a two-horse race between Hearts and Kotoko at the moment because they have all expressed interest in signing Shafiu.
“Both clubs have spoken to Shafiu and his camp and I can tell you that they were fruitful discussions,” the source told the Graphic Sports.
Shafiu returned to Ghana from Romania last week where he featured prominently in the plans of Romanian giants CFR Cluj, after a two-week trial and also had a successful medicals last month.
However, the sudden outbreak of the Coronavirus jolted his chances of signing a lucrative two-and-a-half contract with the UEFA Europa League side.
The player is expected to make what could turn out to be the toughest decision of his career by choosing either the Phobians or Porcupine Warriors.
Meanwhile, the source noted that Shafiu could overlook the opportunity of playing for any of the two giants in the country by staying put at Ashantigold in order to end his contract and leave on a good note.
It is, however, unknown what decision the in-demand striker will make concerning his future with the club.
“I can tell you that Shafiu is currently undecided because he is also weighing up a bid to finish his contract with Ashantigold so he can leave on a good note in July,” the source asserted.
