Black Stars General Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has assured of the team’s determination to go through the group stage and enter the medal zone in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.
For Gyan, the debutants in the Black Stars are blending well with the old guards and he believes that will be a huge advantage to the team’s onslaught for the trophy that has eluded them for over three decades.
He said the presence of Andy Yiadom, Lumor Agbenyenu, Kassim Nuhu, Caleb Ekuban and Kwabena Owusu, among others, had invigorated the team so much to make a positive impact on the tournament.
“We have an all-round team and I think the skills of the new players, together with the experienced ones, will help Ghana reach far in this tournament,” he assured.
“it is not going to be an easy tournament following the increase in number of teams from 16 to 24 teams, and with a treacherous weather in Egypt, there would be difficulties, but we are prepared to weather the storm, no matter the situation.”
Gyan, 33 , is not only Ghana’s top scorer in the AFCON tournament but is also the all-time leading goal scorer in Ghana, with 51 goals in all tournaments and a historic six FIFA World Cup goals.
He has represented Ghana in three consecutive FIFA World Cups.
The Kayserispor striker is considered the most experiences player in the Ghana team.
Currently, the Black Stars are n Dubai preparing for Egypt 2019 and will play Benin, Cameroon and Guinea in Group F.
