Four teams including Ghana would be jostling for positions into the last 16 after 12 teams booked their places in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
With just the final group games to be played for Group E and F it appear the boys are gradually being separated from the men.
None of the continental heavyweights have fallen casualty to the competition at this stage but the race for the limited four places is getting keener with the likes of Ghana, South Africa, Tunisia and Kenya all having their destiny in their own hands.
Indeed the competition has been full of surprises over the years and by the close of day on Tuesday all teams would know their fate as to who could progress and those who would kiss the competition good bye.
Surprisingly, tournament debutant, Madagascar, have sealed their spot in the last 16 together with some 11 other teams, unlike Mauritania who are still struggling to survive the tournament.
For Burundi, Namibia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe the competition is over for them and they have to try their luck next time.
Below are the qualified and those likely to join them
3. Democratic Republic of Congo
6. Ivory Coast
Contenders(for 4 places)
7. South Africa
