The International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa super welterweight championship bout at Dzodze in the Volta region between Ghana’s Dodzi Kemeh and Brazil’s Sergio Dos Santos Carvalho on April 11 has been postponed until further notice.
The decision to call off the boxing extravaganza, dubbed ‘Thunder in the Volta’, was in response to the Ghana Boxing Authority’s (GBA) directive for the suspension of all professional boxing activities in the country in adherence to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive for a suspension of all public events in the country to help deal with the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.
In a statement, the CEO of ACE Power Promotions, Dr Adae Opoku Amoako, noted that the postponement was in compliance with President Akufo-Addo’s directive but hoped that the pandemic will be brought under control soon to ensure an early return of sporting activities.
“It is our prayer that this pandemic will soon be brought under control for life to return to normalcy, especially sporting activities,” it the statement said.
In a related development, the Director of Operations at the ACE Power Promotions, Mr Isaac Amankwaah, has urged boxers scheduled to fight on the bill to remain safe as they keep training to maintain their fitness and form ahead of a new date to be announced later.
He also appealed to all sports enthusiasts to keep safe by observing all the health guidelines, directives and keep the best hygienic practices.
